How it Works

Many People have questions about the process for the Model for a Day Sessions:

Who are these best suited to?

  • New Mothers
  • Mothers and Daughters
  • BFF's
  • Sisters
  • Hens Parties
  • Work Mates
  • Couples
  • Women who have reached a milestone in their life and need to mark it with a wonderful flag of awesomeness!

1. Preshoot Consult

  • We usually book the preshoot about a week or two after you enquire
  • 30 minute chat where we find out about you and what makes you amazing.
  • This is where we start to perceive your inner beauty and start plotting how we are going to turn it into Art.
  • We talk about makeup and clothing, and styling ideas
  • We decide where we are going to shoot and when (we are currently booked about a month out during the week and about 3 months out for weekends)
  • We give you homework to do to help you visualize the perfect shoot and to help us all be on the same page.
  • Most people leave very excited and full of anticipation for their big day.
2. The MakeUp Lesson

  • Once you have sent us your vision board that we talk about in the Preshoot (very easy, very fun, very addictive), we then sit down with you and chat with you about it then it is up in to the makeup chair.
  • Our makeup artists are fantastic teachers as well and will talk you through what they are doing so that you can work on achieving the looks for yourself when you leave.
  • They pamper and teach you for about an hour and half then it is off for your first shoot.
  • We often start with a lighter make up and more subdued hair, and then as the shoot progresses we amp it up!
3. The Shoot:

  • Master Photographer, Mandi Lynn will help style you for your shoot, then it is off for the first session.
  • The first one is usually a little unco where you feel slightly like a dork...but don't worry it doesn't last long.  She shows you how to pose so that you bring out your best assets, and you will usually have a lot of laughs getting there.  The first frames are usually a bit stiff but you will quickly warm up as you get the hang of it.  Usually your inner minx decides that it is safe to come out and play and that is when the fun really begins.
  • The shots are often done in the studio, and then if you like she will take you to her favourite "sets" around Jackson Street, the gardens, the beach, some edgy industrial areas, Percy's reserve, or a place of your choice.
  • The shoot involves about 3 - 5 changes of clothes, and takes about an hour and half.
4. The ordering session:
  • Usually scheduled a week or two after your shoot.
  • You will be shown on a TV a selection of between 40-80 images from your day.
  • You will be taught how to use the selection software and left to choose your images on your own.
  • A staff member will be available to help you to cull your images as most people tend to have far too many favourites and need help thinning them to match their budget.
  • Once you have decided, the A La Mode staff will print you out an invoice and email it to you.
  • Once you are home you can pay by internet banking...this gives you time to make sure that you made the absolute right decision for yourself.
  • It is usually best to bring everyone who makes financial decisions along for the viewing...but we will leave that all up to you.
  • Payments can be made, and we prefer three month terms to get there.  We do not charge anything extra to do this.
  • The images that you order will go to Mandi for full postproduction work and will come out looking like they belong in a high end magazine.  She is fussy as can be about her post production, and will not rest until it is perfect.
5. Collecting your images.
  • Once the first $500.00 is paid into our accounts the images will go into the post production cue.
  • Images can be collected once the full balance has been paid.
  • The postman is not usually our friend.  He has mangled so many of the images that we insist that you come and collect the images...plus that then allows us to watch you open them like at Christmas!  We don't like having that part taken away from us. :)
  • At this stage we are experiencing about 6 weeks to get the images sent to print, matted, signed prettily packaged and the CD burned for you.
